Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our site and hosting provider automatically receive basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site in aggregate. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to help block spam. See our Cookie Policy for details about cookies and similar technologies.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • respond to your questions and route them to the right member of our team;
  • review referrals and coordinate stays and services for families;
  • process donations, send receipts, and thank our supporters;
  • coordinate volunteers, meal groups, donation drives, and events;
  • share stories you have given us permission to share;
  • send updates and newsletters you have asked to receive;
  • improve our website and protect it from spam, fraud, and misuse; and
  • meet our legal, accounting, and reporting obligations.

Information about families and children

We treat information about families and patients with special care. Referral information is used only to review and coordinate a family’s stay or services, and it is shared only with the staff, hospital partners, and service providers who need it for that purpose. We do not use family or patient information for fundraising or marketing without permission.

Our website is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. A child’s first name and age may be included in a referral submitted by a social worker with the family’s consent.

How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only:

  • with service providers that help us operate, such as website hosting, email delivery, donation processing, volunteer management, form spam protection, and analytics. They may use information only to provide services to us;
  • with hospital and healthcare partners when needed to coordinate a family’s referral or stay;
  • when you ask us to, or give us permission to, such as sharing a story you submitted; and
  • when required by law, or to protect the safety of our guests, staff, volunteers, or others.

Third-party sites and embedded content

Our website links to and embeds content from other services, including our online giving platform, our volunteer platform, Amazon wish lists, Google Maps, video players such as Vimeo and YouTube, and social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Those services have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review their policies when you visit them.

Emails and your choices

If you sign up for updates, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us. Even if you unsubscribe from updates, we may still send messages related to a donation, referral, stay, or request you made.

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information you have provided through this website. We will respond as required by applicable law, and we may need to keep certain records, such as donation records, for legal or accounting purposes.

How we protect and keep information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information, including encrypted connections to our website. Card payments are handled by our giving platform; we do not store full payment card numbers on this website. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described here or as required by law, and then delete or de-identify it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
